Meet Eric Tucker, wine lover and owner of Wine Kitz in Fredericton.
Background:
Eric has always had an interest in wine. In 1980, while living in Ontario, he brought home some freshly squeezed grape juice from the Niagara region, and with the help of Stanley Anderson’s original edition of “The Art of Making Wine,” he started experimenting. After this introduction, Eric spent twenty years in the restaurant business, where unfortunately he only had time to drink wine. Eventually, he’d had enough. He sold his restaurants, and began travelling, from Australia to the wine regions of California. Eric’s new challenge was that having cultivated a taste for great wine, he found he could not afford as many bottles as he would like.
In 2003, Eric found the solution to his dilemma in the form of a small advertisement in the local Fredericton paper, looking for someone who wanted to get into the wine business. The opportunity to open a Wine Kitz franchise came knocking on the door at just at the right time. The rest, as they say, is history. Eric opened for business in August 2003, and has grown his business into one of the busiest winemaking stores in all the Maritimes.
As the owner of Wine Kitz Fredericton, Eric’s passion for wine is ever-increasing, as evidenced by the 1700+ bottles of wine that now reside in his basement rec-room. His knowledge expands as his business grows, and his loyal customers* seem to share this passion and love of wine. One of Eric’s secrets to success is innovation and the willingness to grow. He was one of the first New Brunswick store owners to adopt the in-store winery concept when it became available in 2004. In just the four years since his grand opening, Eric has expanded his store twice and reconfigured to accommodate more winery space. He has invested in state-of-the-art wine processing equipment, including a commercial 30-bottle washer, nitrogen purge bottle fillers, pneumatic corkers, shrink heat tunnels and in-store wine label application.
